KayakMarco.com's Barrier Island Beach Kayak and Picnic Tour is great for singles, couples or the whole family. The experience lasts about 6 hours so you do need to plan for the day. From a selected launch site, we paddle amongst mangrove islands and tunnels outbound to reach an uninhabited barrier island where we spend time relaxing, exploring, trekking and picnicking. Once rested and refueled, we launch for the return paddle.
This adventure is longer than our other tours and we paddle farther, so please take this into consideration. Depending on the conditions, your requests, where we have been spotting wildlife, and certainly, the whims of your naturalist guide, we may launch from any number of locations in and around Marco Island. We meet at a central location and caravan to our selected launch. Tandem kayaks are used most often on all the trips with singles available an odd number of guests.
We are really good with kayak tours and really bad at getting lunch orders correct! We have given up providing lunches! Please bring whatever you want to eat or drink. A soft sided "six pack" cooler with a couple of frozen water bottles works great. Please bring lots to drink. Keeping hydrated is important.
Brush Key, Coon Key and Keewaydin Island are favorite destinations. Brush and Coon are small and seldom will have others nearby. Keewaydin is much larger, supports more wildlife and usually has more people. Keewaydin can be quite the beach party and loads of fun.
Bring hats, sunblock, sunglasses, a jacket or raingear if appropriate for the day's weather and shoes that you do not mind getting wet. Hydration is important here in the sub-tropics, so bring lots of water. If it is warm, bring bug spray (just in case!) Do not forget your cameras and binoculars and a great attitude!
We will meet at the Shell Island Road Launch Site. Please be a few minutes early so that other guests are not waiting.
